EAG Opening Games Abounded with Distinctive Tianjin Elements

The East Asian Games, after 20 years from its origin in Shanghai, is set to end at its 6th games in the coming 10 days, and then revamped into East Asian Youth Games in 2019, a competition and communication stage for young athletes.

Chapter one of the Opening ceremony, named as Yang Liu Qing Qing (Green Willows), showcased the Yang Liu Qing town, and represented the history and status quo of Yang Liu Qing Spring Festival Painting, an essence in traditional culture of Tianjin. Dozens of Dancers in traditional water-ink costumes, dancing to the sweet and agreeable music, displayed the four procedures of the painting, i.e. sketching, inscribing, rubbing and painting. The dance described the most typical painting, Lian Nian You Yu, meaning Abundance of the Year.

While Yang Liu Qing Qing brought back us the painting facts 600 years ago in Tianjin, Ta Ge Qi Wu (Dancing to Music) aptly combined traditional Chinese performances with modern music, reflecting the supplementary relations of tradition and fashion.

Young dancers, dancing to the modern music, revealed the vigor and vitality of Tianjin enjoying a history of more than six centuries. In the dynamic music, audience also appreciated the classic melody of Tianjin Allegro, a traditional local performance.

People will usually connect Peking Opera, the quintessence of China and Chinese Culture, with Beijing. While less is known that Peking Opera enjoys a unique advantage and popular favor in Tianjin. Tianjin is honored as the Wharf of Peking Opera.

Peking Opera program, Si Hai Sheng Ping, meaning a peaceful world, is a vivid reflection of its extensive popular foundation in Tianjin. The organic combination of Peking Opera, dances, and sports, incorporated into the symphony of Peking Opera, artfully displays the charm of this unique performance.
